Muzhappilangad Beach in Thalassery named as one of the top six beaches in the world for driving by BBC, this beach is grat for a getway with friends. Rent a car and drive down the 4km stretch of Kerala’s only drive-in beach. Which lis parallel to NH66.Even though Goa has many beautiful beaches, it does not have a Drive-in beach. It is considered as the longest drive-in beach in Asia. But that’s not all you can do here. Go paragliding or take a microlite flight for an areal view of the beach. Don’t forget to try blue mussels, a local speciality which is easily available at beach shacks. This beach is also the venue for anual fest held every April. A mix of entertainment and information, the idea behind it is to engage the local community with inclusions such as health education camps,auto expos, painting workshops, drama competitions and more.
Approximately 100–200 m south of the beach there is a private island called Dharmadam Island (Pacha Thuruthu in Malayalam, which translates to Green Island in English). It is possible to walk to the island during low tide. Around 12km away is the town of Thalassery, famous for its cuisine and India’s first dedicated Circus Academy. Make sure you have a portion of the famous Thalessery Biriyani not to confused with regular biriyani.
Despite a tourist destination the beach is a bird watching hotspot too. More than thirty species of migratory birds visit here in the winter. Among them Pectoral sandpiper and Caspian plover, sighted here in 2013 were reported for the first time in Kerala. Long, broad shore and rocky formations on the either side of the beach provide a safe place for migration.
